The HCMC government axes 29 slow housing projects

These projects have finished less than 50% of the compensation work, says a report of the HCMC government.
As per the report, 254 housing projects, including the 29 aforesaid projects, have obtained approval of location for development in the city. These projects occupy a combined area of 2,035 hectares.
Among those, 54 projects have compensated 50% to below 80% of the households forced to relocate; 49 projects have achieved a rate of 80% to below 100% and 119 projects have completely finished compensation.
The 32 remaining projects have done less than 50% of compensation work, but three of them have been given extensions. The other 29 projects will face the axe as requested by the municipal government.
The projects with compensation percentages ranging from 50% to below 100% are granted final extensions (less than 12 months). As for those having completed compensation or the projects whose owners rent State land and are seeking use purpose change, the district governments and relevant agencies will instruct project owners to continue their projects.
From January 2001 to December 2011, around 2,700 projects with a total area of nearly 22,000 hectares were allocated land or had land use purposes changed by the HCMC government. Among those, some 2,500 projects are in operation, while the others are still at the compensation stage.
So far, the city has revoked 108 foot-dragging projects spanning 2,165 hectares in total. In the year to date, 13 projects have been cancelled.
